| Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan. It was once the capital of the Marwar state. In medieval times, Jodhpur lay on the trade routes between Central Asia and the ports of Gujarat, and became a major trade centre during the 16th century. Modern day Jodhpur has a population of over six hundred thousand. Situated at the edge of Thar Desert, Jodhpur is also known as a blue city. It is one of the most vibrant cities of Rajasthan. Jodhpur has also a military and air force station and has a large cantonment and airbase. The City is famous for its textiles and crafts. |
