It is also know as Little Tibet. Leh is at an altitude of 11000 feet above sea level. It is a monastery circuit where all four Buddhist sects are represented by monasteries in ladakh; from the oldest Nyimgmapa sect, the Drokhpa and saskyapa ones to the most recent(16th century) and widely represented sect, the Gelugpa.

Shambha-La is operational from May 01 till end October. September is the best month to visit.
