The city is famous for the Narayan Peth and Pochampalli variety of sarees. Jewelry is another major buy in Pune. Red pottery is a unique item the city has for its shoppers. Apart from this, the city has numerous shops selling the latest designs in western and Indian wears. Another unique shopping experience is the lifestyle stores.
The main shopping areas in the city are the Laxmi Road, M.G.Road, Dhole Patil road, Koregaon Park and Fergusson College road. Another unique spot is the chor bazaar – a spot for cheap, rare and trivial stuffs. The shutters will be down in most shops between 1300 hrs and 1600 hrs for lunch break. So avoid shopping during this time.
For jewelry and sarees the best spot is Laxmi Road. The two sides of the road are filled with numerous stores selling some of the finest designs in jewelry. The displays range from traditional jewelry to light daily wears. This part of the city is the right spot to hunt for traditional Indian wears like Salwaar kameez and the gorgeous Narayan Peth and Pochampalli variety of sarees. Most of the shops in this area are closed on Mondays.
Another important destination for shoppers is the M.G.Road, which is also known as Camp. This part of the city houses numerous boutiques and departmental stores. Tulsi Baug, on Baji Rao Road, is an ideal spot to buy foot wares, clothes and other day-to-day items. For leather items and readymade garments, the best spot is the Fashion street market in Pune Camp. For buying flowers and bouquets the ideal choice is Koregaon Park.
