Churu History

In history, the town of Churu has witnessed many downfalls, as the Thakur of Churu was an ambitious person. Initially the trading classes of the town were well off as trade flourished well there. Gradually Thakur of Churu, Thakur Sher Singh imposed heavy taxes on the traders thereby forcing them to move to Sikar. Later Thakur Sher Singh revolted against the Maharaja of Bikaner but failed. Later he had to commit suicide and the town came directly under the kingdom of Bikaner. The king of Bikaner later convinced the traders to return to the town as the town was in a ruining condition. Apart from this history of rise and fall of various rulers, Churu has also seen some love stories that went ahead to be icon for impending generations. The love story of Dhola and Maru and that of Sassi and Punnu are still very popular among the people there.
