Hospet is situated at a distance of around 325 Km from the capital city of Bangalore. Nestling on the banks of Tungabhadra River, it is just 12 Km from the renowned destination Hampi. And because of this, it has come in the notice of tourism world. Although it has been an important city for the development of the state because of the iron ore production in the city. It is sometimes referred to as Steel City because of the number of iron and steel industries in the region. Hospet has a huge dam built on Tungabhadra River named Tungabhadra Dam. It was built by Vijayanagara King Krishnadevaraya and is considered a marvel. There is a garden at the foot of the dam that is designed in a Japanese style. Both of them have become a great tourist attraction and a popular picnic spot among locales.
What brings recognition to Hospet as a tourist destination is its proximity to Hampi, which is a World Heritage Site. Its just few kilometers from Hospet making it a perfect option for excursions. Chitradurga and Harihar too are situated at a short distance.

Auto rickshaws are the most common vehicle for roaming inside the city. Though hiring a taxi is a much better way for the purpose. Transport Buses also run in good numbers.
How to reach
By Air:
The nearest airport to Hospet is in Bellary which is at a distance of 77 Km. Bellary is one of the most importnat airports in Karnataka and is served by service of all major operators like Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Deccan. From the airport you can hire a taxi to Hospet. It will take around 2 hrs to cover the distance. There are KSRTC buses as well that ply between these cities.
By Rail:
There is a railway station in Hospet itself. It receives regular trains from Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad and Hubli. Railway station is situated close to the city center.
By Road:
Hospet is well connected to all the major cities of Karnataka. Transport buses from the capital city Bangalore are regular to Hospet. Bangalore is around 350 Km from here. Hampi is among the most important travel destination in Karnataka which is only 13 km from here. Hospet thus is the best place from where you can head to Hampi.
