Weather: The climatic condition of Chickmaglur is moderate. Summers are reasonably warmer at 25-35 degrees Celsius. Winters are also pleasantly cool at 15-20 degrees Celsius. However during December to February, the minimum temperature may dip to 9°C.
About Chikmagalur
Chickmaglur, overlooking the Baba Budan Mountains, is situated in the southwestern part of Karnataka with the Western Ghats forming a natural boundary.
Large parts of the district are endowed with dense forests. As many as seven rivers originate in this district; of these the Tunga and the Badhra are the principal rivers. The terrain is beautiful – full with scenic surprises – lofty peaks, hill stations, trekking trails, cascading waterfalls, sacred shrines and slopes that are studded with coffee plantations – the origon of which is believed to belong to the seven seeds of coffee smuggled in by Baba Budan from Yemen in the 1600's. Chickmaglur is one of India's principal coffee growing areas.
Autorickshaws and Tourist Cabs are available. Tourist Cabs are the best choice in case you want to tour the city all day or visit nearby places.
How to reach
By Air:
Nearest Airport is Mangalore airport which is 150 km from Chikmagalur. Bangalore airport is 250 km away.
By Rail:
Chikmagalur is not reachable by train from other Indian cities. However Kadur has the closest railway station which is 40km from Chikmagalur.
By Road:
There are buses every 30 minutes from Bangalore. During the weekends these buses run full and getting a ticket can be a bit of a problem unless you book them in advance.
