About Chidambaram
Chidambaram is 250 Kms south of Chennai. This is a medium sized town with all facilities. The value of the town is enhanced not only by the temple but also by the (Annamalai) University. The people in the town (and near abouts) are lucky in the sense that it is rather unique to have all the departments of stuty upto doctorate level in the Annamalai University, nearby Chidambaram. In Tamil, the word "Temple" refers only to Chidambaram Nataraja Temple. Others are temples too, but this "the" Temple.

By Air: The nearest air-port is at 160 km distance Tiruchirapalli.
By Rail: Direct trains from Madras Egmore you can go to Ginjee and seeing the Fort take the 15-12 Trichi Passenger from Tindivanam on the same day and reach Chidambaram at 20-52 hr, distance is 122 km and from Madras it is 244 km. Ramesh-waram-Tirupati Exp also runs via Madurai/ Chidambaram/ Vellore.
By Road: And the bus stn. is in the centre of the city. Every hour buses run to 64 km distant Pondicherry on the north and Madras. Besides, buses from Chidambaram run to all parts of the state.
