About Alleppey
Alappuzha, also known as Alleppey, is famous for its scenic and beautiful beaches and backwaters. Flanked by the Arabian Sea on the west and a string of lakes, lagoons and backwaters from all sides, Alappuzha make a picture perfect tourist destination in Kerala.
Famous as 'The Venice of the East' among tourists, a backwater houseboat tour in the pristine clear water around Alappuzha beaches provides a unique experience to its visitors. The enchanting view of wild animals playing and bathing and chirping birds flying in the clear blue sky, give an immense pleasure to you. This beautiful beach is a favorite haunt of sunset viewers. Its beauty is enhanced by the presence of a 140 years old pier that runs into the sea. There is also an old lighthouse nearby, which is of immense interest for the tourists. The famous Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race takes place annually in August on Vembanad Lake in Alleppey. Each boat has a crew of up to 100 rowers and is avidly watched by thousands of spectators.
Alappuzha is also famous for its diverse and beautiful culture and festivals. Boat races organized here are major cultural attraction for the tourists.

Alleppey has an excellent local bus service system and it is cheap. Autorickshaw is cheap way of transportation between attractions. Local taxis are also available at cheap rates. There are many Car rental companies offering cars with drivers or self drive. When you are visiting places like Kuttanad, it's better to opt for boats, as many places in Kuttanad are inaccessible by road.
There are also good ferry services between places that are widely used by the locals, a cheap and scenic way of getting around. Many attractions are near by one another so you could walk between them.
Water ways:This exotic place is also well connected through waterways. It is linked by boat and ferry services through the scenic backwaters to Cochin, Kottayam, Kevalam, Changanassery and Chengannur.

By Road: National Highway 47 goes through Alappuzha connecting it with almost all the nearby places of South India. A number of buses ply to Alappuzha.
