The altitude of Shimla from the sea level makes it a very cool place. Summer temperatures are mild but it is definitely cold in winters with snowfall.
About Shimla
Placed in the lower ranges of the Himalaya Mountains, Shimla is surrounded by pine, deodar, oak and rhododendrom forest. Shimla holds a variety of shopping, sport and entertainment. Shimla also is a convenient base for variety of adventure sports such as Skiing, Trekking, Fishing and Golfing etc.
Situated in the north-west Himalayas, Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Spread across 12 kms along a ridge that overlooks terraced hillsides and cultivations, Shimla is magnificently robed in dense forests of oak and pine, fur and rhododendron, and it is best to travel here on the slow train from Kalka. Shimla is a perfect heaven for the ones in search of tranquility. Nature has blessed this capital city with innumerable gifts and man has used them to make Shimla one of India’s best locales.

Most of Shimla can be covered on foot but the climb can sometimes get difficult. Taxis are available for hire at the Tourist Reception Centre on Cart Road. In addition, mini buses and Himachal Tourism buses operating from the Mall are available for local tours.
By Air: The airport at Shimla, 22 km from the main city, has connecting flights to Delhi and Kullu. The nearby Chandigarh airport is, however, more handy as it is connected to all the major airports in India.
By Rail: Only train plying between Shimla and Kalka joins them through railways network.
By Road: Shimla is well connected by road to most towns within the state and to all major towns in Punjab and Haryana. It is linked by bus and coach to Delhi and Chandigarh as well.
